Living to Learn, Learning to Live Together

P.E.

At New Pastures Primary School we want every child to enjoy and succeed in Physical education, regardless of their background.  We aim to design a curriculum, which is accessible to all and will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement.  We want to equip our pupils with not only the minimum statutory requirements of the physical education National Curriculum but to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

Intent

  • To deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical activities.

  • We aim to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.

  • To develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing in our children now and for their future.

  • For all children to  be actively engaged in a range of physical and sporting activities and for our  children to be active throughout each PE lesson and beyond.

  • To  use PE to excel in all areas and to develop our key learning behaviours of perseverance, independence, resilience, creativity and collaboration.

Implementation

  • We use Your-PE and Real PE schemes along with cross curricular active learning across the curriculum. These incorporate a variety of sports and skills to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses.

  • We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities before, during and after school, in addition to competitive sporting events Sports Premium Funding is spent effectively to develop a lasting legacy for PE & Sport at school.

  • Children are at the forefront of their learning and have regular opportunities to reflect upon their own efforts, and those of others.

  • Learning in PE lessons is differentiated through teacher planning and self-chosen challenges to ensure it is accessible, but also challenging to all.

  • Cross-curricula links are made explicit through medium term plans and we aim to weave physical activity and well-being throughout the whole school curriculum and beyond.

Impact

  • Children make good progress  and will be evidenced through the Your-PE live assessment tracker.

  • Regular verbal feedback is given within lessons to praise and ensure children apply the correct technique. Through this continuing dialogue, children are able to challenge themselves to further develop skills and confidence.

  • Children review their own learning, and that of others, throughout each lesson.

  • Children become aware of their own strengths and also of what they need to do to improve their physical activity.

  • Children understand the impact of physical activity on their own body and take this understanding with them to all areas of their lives.

  • Children develop a wider range of subject specific vocabulary.

  • Through the Physical Education Action Plan, pupil voice and staff meetings, regular reviews can be made to explore the impact of the New Pastures PE Policy any other improvement initiatives.
