Living to Learn, Learning to Live Together
At New Pastures Primary School we believe that learning a foreign language is a necessary part in being a member of the modern world in which we live. It fosters children`s curiosity and deepens knowledge and understanding of our
multi - cultural society.
Our curriculum is designed to progressively develop children`s skills in another language and lay the foundations for future language learning.
We teach French as our main MFL and aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing needed to enable children to use and apply their language learning in a variety of contexts.
We aim to raise the awareness of our children of other languages that are spoken
We follow La Jolie Ronde Scheme of work so that children progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary around topics. Children are encouraged to develop their speaking and listening skills through conversation, activities, songs and games and as their confidence grows with pictures, captions and sentences. Displays and vocabulary are used in different languages also to celebrate and inform on the diversity in the school
Our children leave school with a foundation for future language learning. They know and remember more.
Assessment through learning ensures future lessons are planned/adapted
Our children gain more awareness of other languages that are spoken particularly within the school community.
