Living to Learn, Learning to Live Together

Religious Education

At New Pastures Primary School we ensure our curriculum is fully inclusive and provide a broad and balanced curriculum that maximises the outcomes for every child. Religious education is a compulsory subject that forms part of the national curriculum and has a significant role for the development of pupils spiritual, moral and social development. It promotes respect and open mindedness towards others with different faiths, cultures and beliefs.  We want our children to have a clearer idea of what religion is about, the importance that it plays in many people’s lives and how that faith is expressed in their daily lives and routines.

  • We follow the Doncaster Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education for Key Stage One and Key Stage Two and the Early Years Framework subjects of The World and People and Communities.

  • We aim to inspire and challenge the children by providing them with an insight into a range of different religions and belief.

  • We want our children to appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and our behaviour, develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhance spiritual, moral social and cultural development.

  • We want our children to gain confidence in discussing and comparing other cultures and religions

  • We use Discovery RE to support staff in teaching engaging and challenging RE lessons with confidence.

  • Planning is detailed, covers from F1 to Y6 and begins with a key question to engage the children. In different year groups children are taught about Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Islam

  • Christianity is taught in every year group with Easter and Christmas given a fresh treatment each year developing children`s learning in a progressive way.

  • Our children will have a solid basis for learning about the world in which we live and the people with whom we live

  • They will know more remember more, understand more and demonstrate a positive attitude towards people of any religion

  • Children will show an understanding of cultural beliefs different to their own. They will demonstrate respectful behaviour to all and this is transferable outside of school in the wider community and beyond.

  • Through their R.E. learning, our children will be able to ask questions and be able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world.
